All of the women were at least 30 years of age with a mean age and MBI of 42.5 years and 27, respectively. At baseline, the women were all tested and confirmed to be vitamin D deficient, defined as a 25(OH)D level less than or equal to 20 ng\/mL. Baseline measurements of their parathyroid hormone, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, insulin resistance, and HRQOL were taken.<\/p>\n<p>The women were then randomized into either a treatment group or a placebo group. The treatment group received 50,000 IU of vitamin D3 weekly for eight weeks and then 50,000 IU monthly for 10 months. Women in the placebo group took a placebo in the same fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment with vitamin D3 or placebo lasted for a total of 12 months.
