Exposure to sunshine inactivates SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes COVID-19 — the nation’s top immunologist and leading authority on COVID-19 Dr. Anthony Fauci, MD, confirmed late last week in an interview with Matthew McConaughey<\/p>\n
“It does. That’s one of the reasons why outside in the sun when you are interacting\u2026 That is much, much better than being inside,” Fauci said. “Outside is always better than inside.”<\/p>\n
Despite evidence suggesting this to be the case, some questions had remained over what types of UV light would kill the virus, how effectively and how much exposure it would take. While Dr. Fauci did not cite any specific research, a study in June concluded that “90 percent or more of SARS-CoV-2 virus will be inactivated after being exposed [to summer sun] for 11 to 34 minutes,” and “99 percent of SARS-CoV-2 may be inactivated within the two hours period around solar noon during summer in most U.S. cities located south of latitude 43 degrees north,” according to Best Life<\/em>.<\/p>\n
