<\/p>\nWhile male clients make up the minority of our industry’s customer base, recent trends suggest that men are caring more about their looks and getting that golden tan is one way they’re improving their appearance.<\/p>\n
An article in the York Daily Record states that more men are losing the stigma of caring about their appearance. One of the services that are becoming more acceptable for men to do, according to the article, is tanning.<\/p>\n
Stan Bunsick a twice weekly tanner, says in the article, \u201cIt makes me feel good. When you feel good, you’re more alive.\u201d<\/p>\n
In order to help men beat back the anti-beauty stigma, many businesses are changing how they market themselves. A strategy mentioned in the article by Lisa Carr, owner of Impressions Hairstyling Salon and Tanning, was to change the names of some of the services she offered to be more appealing to men. For example, when dealing with men she doesn\u2019t \u201ccolor\u201d hair, she \u201cblends\u201d it. According to her the word color doesn\u2019t resonate well with male clients.<\/p>\n
With indoor tanning gaining prestige and acceptance with men on popular television shows like Jersey Shore, it’s becoming easier for men to be comfortable with getting into a tanning bed.<\/p>\n
