{"id":7668,"date":"2012-01-11T04:00:47","date_gmt":"2012-01-11T09:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smarttan.com\/news\/?p=7668"},"modified":"2012-01-10T21:56:38","modified_gmt":"2012-01-11T02:56:38","slug":"angry-readers-want-to-ban-cosmo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.smarttan.com\/index.php\/angry-readers-want-to-ban-cosmo\/","title":{"rendered":"Angry Readers Want To Ban \u2018Cosmo\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The magazine that has sold millions of dollars in chemical sunscreen advertising in exchange for leading a public relations charge to restrict teenagers from tanning salons has now been targeted by thousands of angry consumers who want to ban its teen-inappropriate covers from grocery store racks.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News reported this week that Cosmopolitan Magazine is the target of a petition and a Federal Trade Commission complaint alleging that the magazine\u2019s cover material \u2014 which frequently includes racy pictures of teen-age girls \u2014 is inappropriate for young eyes in grocery store check-out lines.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-7670\" href=\"https:\/\/smarttan.com\/news\/index.php\/angry-readers-want-to-ban-cosmo\/2012-01-11-cosmo-copy\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7670\" title=\"2012-01-11 Cosmo copy\" src=\"https:\/\/smarttan.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/2012-01-11-Cosmo-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a>\u201cCosmopolitan magazine released its February issue this week featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning as the cover girl, surrounded by article captions such as \u2018His Best Sex Ever,\u2019 \u2018Too Naughty To Stay Here: But You Have to Try This Sex Trick,\u2019 Fox reported.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fox, a petition with more than 10,000 signatures asking that Cosmo be treated like an X-rated magazine \u2014 with its cover hidden by a wrap when sold at newsstands \u2014 has already turned heads. And the petition\u2019s founder, Nicole Weider, has contacted the Federal Trade Commission to get help on filing an effective complaint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a former reader of the magazine, I happened to pick up an issue and was reading it and was completely shocked at how pornographic and explicit the content had become.
