More than half of tanning salons in a September SmartTan.com survey say that spray tanning services made up a larger percentage of their sales in 2012.
According to the poll, 53 percent say spray tanning was a bigger part of their business this year. One-quarter — 25 percent — say it was a smaller percentage of 2012 sales. The remaining 22 percent reported no change from the previous year.
“As spray tanning has become more popular, there’s no doubt that salons are embracing this service and are doing a better job marketing it,” Smart Tan Executive Director Joseph Levy said. “It’s no longer a case that spray tanning is an adjunct service in tanning facilities. Spray tanning is tanning.”
