Summer Breeze Tanning’s salon manager Heather Macke tells us about some of the salon’s successful events. Read more about them in the November issue of Smart Tan Magazine.
How has Summer Breeze Tanning supported the local community?
Randy Davis, a pastor at the local United Methodist church, started a program to collect $5 gift cards for veterans. He takes them to local VA hospitals to help veterans have a nice meal instead of hospital food. We put a poster up in our store to advertise his efforts. Instead of running a normal special, we found a way to help them give back to the vets. Supre sent tons of lotion packets and mini bottles; Suntan Supply, Four Seasons and others also helped out. When customers gave us a $5 dollar donation or gift card, they’d get a tan in any bed and a packet of lotion. After we ran the promotion through July, we had $1,000 to give to him for the project. This year he is up to 7,000 gift cards — his goal is $10,000 for the year. Randy also takes donations on a www.veteransgiftcards.com, where he has received donations from all 50 states and three other countries.
What are some of your most successful promotions?
On Foursquare, we run a special for the Mayor of the salon. They get a spray tan for half off. And when they refer friends on Facebook, they get a free tan.
But our Free Tan Day is usually the most popular. The first Saturday in February, you get a free tan put on your account and a million different things go on sale. Last year, we took 30 percent off any package product — over 500 people came in that day just because of the sale. As soon as Christmas is over, people start asking about Free Tan Day!
