A recent SmartTan.com poll demonstrates the variability of client demographics within the indoor tanning industry.
In the poll, just under one-third of salons said that males make up 20-35 percent of their client base. Twenty-six percent said 10-19 percent of their customers are male, 23 percent said more than 35 percent of clients are male, and 19 percent said males comprise less than 10 percent of their clientele.
While the percentage of male clients depends to some degree on the salon’s location, the way a salon is operated, branded and marketed has a profound impact on the its client demographics. With the right strategy, there is opportunity for many salons to appeal more to male clientele while still maintaining their female client base.
