In a recent SmartTan.com poll, 56 percent of salons said they have ten or more UV tanning units.
The most respondents, 26 percent, said they have 15 or more tanning units in their salon.
The large segment of salons with many UV units attests to the need for indoor tanning businesses to have a diversified equipment mix in today’s marketplace. Having the right mix of equipment is all about appeasing the broad range of customers that enter your business. In a consumer-driven marketplace, tanners don’t want to settle for anything mediocre; they have the tools to search for a business that will give them the best for their money, and your salon should be on that list.
Of course, the number of units needed in a salon is also impacted by location and retail space. Salons in higher traffic areas may need many units to keep up with demand, but salons with less traffic can certainly be profitable with few units, low overhead, and a loyal customer base. But, regardless of size, having the equipment to meet the needs of various customers is the key.
