First impressions are everything, and it’s no different in the digital world. So, always set the right tone for your relationship with email subscribers with a strong welcome message, the Inc.com article “Are You Welcoming Your Email Subscribers? 3 Tips” advises. Getting subscribers to consistently open your emails is about trust; give them something good to start, and continue to live up to that expectation, and they’ll remain engaged. Get off on the right foot with the help of these tips from Inc.com contributor Janine Popick:
- Send it pronto. Make sure the welcome email goes out right after the user subscribes or is entered into your system, while you’re still fresh in his or her mind. You should be able to set it to send automatically through your email provider or client management system.
- Make your email worth opening. If the first email is a waste of time, why would they open the ones that follow? Provide them an offer or discount that’s too good to resist, and frame it as a thank you for signing up. It’s definitely worth it in terms of future engagement and ensuring that you get every subscriber to come through your door at least once.
- Keep in touch. You typically want to be careful about overwhelming subscribers with too many emails, but you’ll want to keep in closer touch with recent subscribers. After your welcome email, don’t let too much time pass before you send another, and make sure the first several messages continue to offer particularly strong deals and/or interesting content.
