Healthy middle-aged men with low vitamin D levels also suffer from low testosterone levels, new research presented at the American Urological Association 2014 Annual Meeting found.
Sixty-eight percent of data samples from the World Trade Center CHEST program had insufficient vitamin D levels, and that group also had 12 percent lower testosterone levels.
“This suggests that there is something about testosterone synthesis that needs vitamin D,”researcher Mary Ann McLaughlin, MD said.
The study also established further resulting correlations between lower vitamin D levels and higher body mass index levels, larger waist size and less favorable lipid profiles.
