In 2007, Crystal Rooney retired from the Air Force and decided to take some time off. Her husband Ric, owner of Sun Spot Atlantis since 1995, asked if she’d like to come in and help out at the salon. Soon after, the couple traveled to Nashville for the Smart Tan convention. Having Skin Type 1, Crystal had never been able to develop a tan. When she saw a booth at the convention advertising something called “spray tanning,” she was curious and instantly tried it out.

“I couldn’t believe the nice color I received from the spray session. I wound up falling in love with this new thing called ‘sunless,’ and I decided I wanted to become an expert in that segment of our tanning business. Today, Sun Spot Atlantis is the largest sunless facility in Colorado Springs. We have two VersaPro spay units, two evolv. airbrush systems and three airbrush technicians that take appointment seven days a week” says Crystal

Celebrating their 20th year in business, sun Spot Atlantis exemplifies the importance of complementing UV tanning with sunless services in order to evolve with the industry.
