Let’s get back to basics for a minute. It’s great to always be looking for the next big thing or taking time to brainstorm new ideas that can take your business to the next level – that’s how progress happens. But the worst thing you can do is become complacent about the most basic tenants of tanning business operation. While there’s no one right way to create a more successful tanning business, some aspects that have been a part of the general “recipe for success” since the beginning will always be essential. You’ll never improve if you’re declining in any of these facets.
“The three pillars of tanning are cleanliness, customer service, and quality equipment with lamps and acrylics in good condition,” says Quentin Masterson, General Manager of Premiere Tan in Indiana. “Like a three-legged table, remove one leg and it all falls down.”
Of course, it’s not quite as simple as that, and each of these pillars covers any number of sub-categories. As Masterson noted, one specific part of the equation when it comes to the pillar of quality equipment is the lamps that are in it. Lamps are, after all, the “heartbeat of the bed,” as JW North America’s Brendan McCarthy puts it.
