NOV. 13, 2009 — There is near-universal agreement in the indoor tanning community today that indoor tanners sunburn less often as compared to non-tanners, according to the results of a SmartTan.com poll conducted in November.
According to the poll, 98 percent of tanning facility owners agree that indoor tanning clients sunburn less often. Only 2 percent felt that wasn’t true.
“Sunburn prevention is a cornerstone of indoor tanning,” Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy said. “For the cosmetic dermatology industry to continue to argue this point is beyond ridiculous. On one hand they are quietly acknowledging that sunburn prevention is the key to preventing permanent skin damage. But on the other hand they downplay the fact that indoor tanners do sunburn less often outdoors as compared to non-tanners. It’s hypocritical.”
