Bowling a perfect game might not be listed among the typical benefits of red light therapy, but one customer at Forever Summer Tanning in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, swears by it. After a handful of sessions in the SmartSun Therapy SST28, an avid bowler scored a perfect game, rolling 12 strikes in a row for a 300 score, and she claims red light was her secret weapon that helped her achieve the milestone.

“It’s kind of a funny story,” says Forever Summer owner Stacia Gjerde. “She wanted to try it out, and after five or six sessions, she bowled a perfect game, and she attributes it to that.”

While SmartSun Therapy might not actually make you a better bowler, its impact on muscle and joint discomfort, stiffness, minor arthritis, and muscle spasms certainly couldn’t hurt. And as they say: look good, feel good, play good.

Of course, other Forever Summer customers, and even Stacia herself, are experiencing a range of more realistic results since the Detroit Lakes salon introduced the SST28. Stacia has seen improvement in her own skin and sleep, and many clients are seeking visible cosmetic benefits. But as she continues to educate her community about the full range of red light’s effects, some are noticing deeper changes.

“I’ve noticed better skin texture, some sun spots fading, and I’ve been sleeping better. It just makes you feel better overall. Everyone who tries it loves it. Quite a few people are using it for eczema or psoriasis. People come in wanting that anti-aging boost in collagen,” she says.

“One older gentleman is using it for neuropathy. By the second session, he said it was so much better, and he could feel the bottoms of his feet again. He was skeptical at first but decided to give it a try and was definitely a believer after that.”

When Stacia started researching red light therapy options last year, the SST28 seemed to check all the boxes: full-body, laydown, LED, medical-grade, FDA Registered, and a unique design. “There were a couple other options, but the style and design, that it brings the light closer, kept bringing me back to this one,” she says.

Having done her homework, Stacia knew what medical-grade red light could do – not just for her business, but for her community – and even though she says nobody else in her area is competing with her in the red light space, she says making the price accessible to everyone was always a priority. Forever Summer currently offers eight sessions for $160, 12 sessions for $220, and a five-session add-on for members for an additional $50 per month. The affordable add-on has resonated well, giving tanners added benefits and relaxation, and even motivating non-members to sign up.

“I wanted it to be accessible for everybody. I wanted it to be affordable because it really does make you feel good, and I want everybody to be able to afford it and make everybody feel good,” she says. “It’s been really popular with the tanners we already have for sure. They get a lot of good benefits, and it helps you tan faster as well. A lot of people just love how relaxing it is. They can come do red light and tan and get a little more of a relaxing ‘me’ time.”

Forever Summer’s high-traffic location in an outdoor mall has also made appealing to non-tanners easy and cost-effective.

“I’ve got signs outside that I change all the time with the different benefits of red light, so people walking by come in and ask questions. I have brochures I can hand out. I get calls all the time asking about red light. People are either really educated about it or have no idea. It helps that we’ve had customers do reviews with amazing results, and we can post them on social media and show others what it can do,” Stacia says.

Whether it’s a perfect game or a perfect glow, SmartSun Therapy has given Forever Summer clients a new way to look and feel their best.
