Q: What was the biggest challenge for your salon?
A: We had a problem down here with a competitor. They were selling lotions at cost, which drew people from 10 miles out of town. It was impossible to compete. If he was selling something, I couldn’t sell it.
Q: How did you overcome that obstacle?
A: I realized that he couldn’t sell Hawaiian Beach Tanning. We created our own lotion as a way of fighting against the deep discounting. Now we can explain the quality to people because we have seen it for ourselves. We were really impressed in the care our producer took with the ingredients.
Q: Tell me about the process of creating your lotions:
A: Well it took two years just to get the bottle I wanted. All I could find was white or clear bottles. I wanted a back bottle that looked strong and long lasting. I designed the label and apply them at the shop. Over the years we have switched producers, changed ingredients and scents. But our level 1, 2 and 3 lotions have been very successful for us.
