Smart Tan Executive Director Joseph Levy interviewed as part of a segment on indoor tanning Friday morning, May 4th, on NBC’s Today Show.
The segment — which features Levy showing how a sunbed actually works — also includes an interview with Levy and NBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyderman. The segment aired shortly after 8:00 am EDT.
Indoor tanning has been in the news this week, as coverage of a New Jersey woman who was accused of allowing her 6-year-old daughter to use a sunbed roused attention. The woman denied that her daughter used the sunbed.
Beach Bum tanning salon owner James Oliver was contacted Thursday afternoon by NBC producers searching for a tanning bed and someone to participate in the segment. Oliver quickly orchestrated what appears to be an opportunity to tell our story on live television.
“James contacted Joe Levy at 3 pm about the segment. Joe was on a flight for New York four hours later,” said Matt Russell, Smart Tan CEO. Oliver also coordinated the delivery of a Montego Bay tanning bed with the help of Susan Miller and Paul Manke from PC Tan in New Jersey. “It all came together so fast. James did an amazing job of coordinating all of this in just a matter of hours,” said Russell.
