In a television interview, the author of the book Vitamin D: Is This The Miracle Vitamin? challenges an executive for the Cancer Society of New Zealand on the stance of her organization, and others like it, on sun exposure and sunscreen and the Cancer Society’s financial ties to the sunscreen industry.

In the interview, journalist Ian Wishart explains the importance of vitamin D to overall health and how sun avoidance and sunscreen campaigns have led to rampant vitamin D deficiency and negatively impacted public health. When Dr. Jan Pearson of the Cancer Society of New Zealand questions his conclusions, Wishart scrutinizes the legitimacy of the Cancer Society’s position on sunscreen use, given the organization is heavily funded by sunscreen companies.
