“Put away the sunscreen and go outside!” — Carl Lowe, a frequent contributor to Prevention Magazine and The New York Times, in his column titled, “To be skinny you need vitamin D.”

2009-03-18-quote-of-the-week-copy-tanningnews.jpgLowe is the latest columnist to figure out that UV exposure is the only true source of abundant vitamin D, that diet contains relatively little vitamin D, that over-use of sunscreen strips us of vitamin D and that non-burning UV exposure makes sense. In his column he cites The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Vol. 94, No. 1 67-73; and American Heart Association’s Joint 49th Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention and Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism.
