Natural News: Four Common Sun Exposure Mistakes

Friday, March 16th, 2018

Prominent natural health advocacy group Natural News advised readers on correcting common mistakes regarding sun exposure in an article on NaturalNews.com.

“The sun is a major healing force and is responsible for sustaining life on this planet,” wrote Natural News contributor Derek Henry. “However, in recent years it is more recognized for its damaging effects than how it can positively affect someone’s health. This is due to an improper relationship with the sun, however, with some slight adjustments that healing power can be recaptured.”

These are the “major screw ups” that the article discussed:

Acclimation and exposure

The article recommends avoiding overexposure and developing a base tan, or “protective tan” as it calls it, in the spring to prevent skin-damaging sunburn.

Misuse of sunscreen

Among other considerations about sunscreen, the article points out that it blocks vitamin D production, and advises use of non-toxic sunscreens only for extended sun exposure when skin protection is necessary.

Sunglasses overkill

Henry is also concerned with overuse of sunglasses, explaining that important body functions rely on the retina being exposed to a full spectrum of light rays.

Improper food choices

According to the article, eating a high antioxidant diet of sun grown produce, herbs and supplements can work as a form of internal sunscreen, helping prevent sunburn and allowing you to more fully experience the benefits of the sun.
