Surveillance video released this week by police shows a tanning salon client who bravely grabbed a hand gun from a would-be tanning salon robber in a south-side Chicago suburb Dec. 11, shooting the robber dead in the salon’s reception area.
LA Tans salon customer Jason McDaniel foiled the robbery in the Orland Park salon after the robber had a salon employee tied up at gunpoint. The robber, identified as Gary Amaya who is now a suspect in several Oct. 5 shootings in southern Illinois and Indiana.
Video footage shows that McDaniel entered the salon while the robbery was in progress. When Amaya briefly set down the gun and bent over, McDaniel rushed the robber, grabbed the gun and fired two shots, killing Amaya.
LA Tans this week gave McDaniel a $5,000 reward and gave McDaniel and his wife free tanning for life.
