Despite the fact that the conclusions of U.S. Surgeon General’s recent warning on UV light lack scientific evidence and don’t seem to add up, the report will no doubt have an impact on our industry. The report is anything but positive, but Smart Tan Vice President Joe Levy says it has actually created opportunities of which true tanning professionals can take advantage.
The Surgeon General claims that all UV exposure is bad, while acknowledging that there are benefits from sun exposure, but that none of these benefits can be gained from use of a sunbed. These opinions are contradictory and not supported by scientific evidence in the report, and many in the scientific community have already taken notice of this. That’s why tanning professionals have the opportunity to benefit from standing their ground and continuing to teach sunburn prevention in the salon as well as outside.
The contents of the report and the opportunities it provides will be a constant theme throughout our educational sessions at Smart Tan Nashville this October, starting with the opening session on Saturday, Oct. 3 and continuing throughout the weekend.
Joe Levy discusses the report and how we’ll get to the bottom of it in Nashville in the video above.
