There was a time when Renée Edgren thought about giving up on red light therapy. Now, her SmartSun Therapy SST28 rivals their KBL K7S as one of the most used pieces of equipment at Utopia Tanning & Spa in San Ramon, CA.

When Renée and her husband, Tyler, purchased the business in 2005, it had already had a stand-up low-pressure red light unit, but at that time, red light therapy wasn’t the mainstream service it’s become today, and they had to consider whether it was worth the space it was taking up. Over time, as awareness and demand for red light therapy grew, so did its value to the business. Then, adding the SmartSun Therapy SST28 last July took it to the next level.

Now, Utopia is selling SST add-ons to tanning memberships for an additional $65 per month along with packages of 12 sessions for $204 and SST-only memberships for $105 per month. Even though it’s priced at a relative premium, as of late May, their SST28 had been used for just shy of 1,500 sessions, making it a close second in total usage to their KBL K7S since last July.
