HEADLINE STORY: UV exposure is the Best Way To Get Vitamin D

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

“If you use suntan parlors once a week or if you live in Florida and sunbathe once a week, year-round, do nothing. However, if you have little UVB exposure, my advice is as follows: healthy children under the age of 2 years should take 1,000 IU per day—over the age of 2, 2,000 IU per day. Well adults and adolescents should take 5,000 IU per day.” — Dr. John Cannell, MD, founder of the independent non-profit Vitamin D Foundation.

2009-09-10-quote-of-the-week-copy.jpgCannell will be a guest speaker at Smart Tan Downtown — Smart Tan’s 14th Annual Convention in Downtown Nashville Oct. 10-11. Cannell will discuss how the “sun scare” message may be killing our children, sentencing them to vitamin D deficiency related disorders. He is one of a growing number of scientists who realize that all vitamin D ultimately comes from UV light, and that no natural source of vitamin D can replace what nature intended: for us all to get some sun.
