After years of bad news followed by more bad news, our industry, along with many others, should benefit greatly in 2017. The new presidential administration has already awoken a sleeping giant, which is our economy with trillions of dollars idly parked along the sidelines. I am therefore rather optimistic for the upcoming season. Not only do I see us getting some legislative relief, the consumer confidence of our customers should be reaching some all-time highs that we haven’t seen in years.

“Consumer confidence” is a funny thing but is so important. What we are really talking about is the “mood” of the people. For example, the days after the election in November had our stock market shooting to all time highs. Black Friday weekend sales hit record highs too. Nothing changed to really warrant such an increase, but there was an uplifting mood that gave consumers and investors a renewed confidence.

So how does this affect your salon, and how can you profit from it? When your mood is upbeat, you are more apt to buy more and spend more. The same goes for all of our clients. They will start to catch this upbeat sense of renewal and will be looking for ways to join in and looking for where to spend there money.
