Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy did a 20-minute radio interview with western Michigan radio station WJRW on Thursday, explaining why Vitamin D should simply be referred to as “The Sunshine Hormone” and calling for people to carefully scrutinize over-the-top “sun scare” messages.
“Saying that UV light is dangerous and should be avoided is akin to saying that water causes drowning, and therefore we should avoid water,” Levy said. “It’s a complete misrepresentation of the complex relationship that UV has with human health.”
Levy was asked to put vitamin D research in perspective, and also about the rationale behind over-the-top sun-scare messaging. WJRW host Dave Jaconette also asked Levy about indoor tanning, and what consumers needed to know. Levy urged people to use common sense and to take a balanced approach.
“Bottom line, people need to realize the ‘sun scare’ message is bought and paid for,” Levy said.
