After 20 years as an ultrasound technician, Jayne Contois was ready for something new. She was too young to retire and wanted a new business venture. She and her husband approached the owner of the oldest tanning salon in Bradford, Ontario and were pleased to hear that the owner was ready to move on and sell.

Contois was drawn to the indoor tanning industry because its services brighten everyone’s day. As an ultrasound technician, she dealt with people who were generally not too happy about having to visit her, but as a tanning salon owner, she found the complete opposite.

“I noticed every time someone goes in for a tan, no matter how grumpy they are, they left happy. When you come in to tan, you drop all of your problems at the door,” says Contois.

So began her journey to offering her small town a place to retreat, relax and receive great color. Customers from the previous owners stayed on and have become loyal followers, and new clients continue to roll in, expanding their customer base. Cabana Tan is a Bradford haven where anybody can drop in, tune out and tan.
