Support the Sunny Natural Prevention Message this May

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

It’s almost that time again – the second annual Natural Breast Cancer Prevention Month will take place in May, and indoor tanning businesses around the country are already gearing up to raise awareness and funds in support of education about vitamin D and breast cancer prevention.

The Vitamin D Foundation has once again organized educational materials and promotional items to help businesses spread the natural prevention message and raise funds to support organizations that embrace that same message. Like last year’s campaign, the 2013 effort will support the Breast Cancer Natural Prevention Foundation, an action organization dedicated to saving lives today by promoting natural lifestyle choices proven to reduce the risk of breast cancer, most notably by correcting epidemic vitamin D deficiency.

“We know that vitamin D activates a cell’s ability to resist irregular mutation – that it helps the body fight cancer one cell at a time,” says Breast Cancer Natural Prevention Foundation co-director Marc Sorenson. “It only makes sense for medical professional to default to what levels are natural and intended in the body. That’s the message that needs to get out.”

With hundreds of research studies supporting their conclusions, the BCNPF directors want to change the way people think about the fight against breast cancer. Most of the prominent breast cancer foundations focus almost exclusively on detection and treatment of the disease, but the BCNPF aims to fill a void of attention toward natural prevention.

The primary objective of the BCNPF is to educate health care providers, the scientific community, the media and the general public about the science that supports vitamin D levels, naturally consistent with sun exposure, as perhaps the most powerful breast cancer prevention imperative. By doing so, the foundation hops to correct epidemic levels of vitamin D deficiency in women today, substantially decreasing their risk of every contracting breast cancer.

“It all starts with this simple face: Vitamin D deficiency is now recognized as one of the most significant and preventable risk factors for breast cancer. And the amount of vitamin D humans need to be healthy is only naturally consistent with getting regular sun exposure – the most natural, reliable, abundant and neglected source of vitamin D,” Sorenson says.

Last year’s campaign raised well over $100,000, a tremendous success that the Vitamin D Foundation hopes to build on in the second year of the campaign. This year’s effort will feature the same campaign materials – brochures, counter cards, T-shirts and posters to educate and promote, and wristbands and pledge cards as incentives for donations.

The campaign kit also comes with a guidelines document, outlining campaign details, fundraising strategies and ways to promote the campaign. Participants will also receive a BCNPF press kit, goal thermometer to track donations, and press release templates to help them inform their local media about their efforts.
