Nineteen out of 20 indoor tanning facility owners say that their indoor tanning clients sunburn less often on spring break when compared to non-tanners, according to the results of a SmartTan.com poll conducted in April.

According to the poll, 95 percent say tanners burn less often. Only 5 percent disagreed — a remarkable consensus for what has always been a cornerstone of professional indoor tanning.

“The base tan multiplies the effectiveness of chemical sunscreen in preventing sunburn,” Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy said. “That has always been the case — along with the fact that professional tanning facilities teach the correct usage of sunscreen it’s why tanners do sunburn less often outdoors as compared to non-tanners.”
