Five out of six indoor tanning facilities say they are more proactive at teaching outdoor sunburn prevention today than they were three years ago — an amazing figure that further cements professional indoor tanning as part of the solution in educating the public about proper sun care.
According to a SmartTan.com poll conducted in early March, 83 percent of salons say they are more proactive at teaching outdoor sunburn prevention today than they were three years ago. Only 10 percent said they weren’t, while only 7 percent said there was no difference in their approach today. The results are not scientific, but are highly directional.
“I have been saying for years that professional tanning facilities — when we do our jobs right — are part of the solution, and not part of the problem, when it comes to proper, practical sun care,” Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy said. “We have known for a long time that outdoor sunburn is much less common in indoor tanners and that regular, moderate UV exposure is what nature intended for us. Since most of us live in conditions today where we don’t get regular UV exposure — either because we live in northerly climates or because we work and spend more time indoors — professional indoor tanning today is the best possible surrogate for what nature intended.”
Smart Tan has stepped up educational offerings to facilities, improving materials geared at teaching sunburn prevention. Call Smart Tan at 800-652-3269 or 866-795-3755 in Canada for more information.
