Quality Over Quantity

Before she bought Tan-A-Rama in 2008, Cindy Grogan loved living life in the sun, but she had never tanned indoors. With a long history in furniture sales, she doted lovingly over dinette sets and armchairs, helping people find the ideal pieces to make a house a home. According to Cindy, sales came easy. She took some sales courses, but it was the simple joy of talking to and helping people that really helped her succeed.

But Cindy was ready to make a change in her life; it seemed too coincidental that a tanning salon went up for sale in her area just as she began dreaming of her own business. With her children grown and on their own, she was ready for a new adventure. Even though she didn’t know much about tanning, Cindy began a quest to educate herself about sunlight and indoor tanning. After trying it herself, she quickly fell in love and decided to buy Tan-A-Rama from its previous owner.

Although the inventory had changed from furniture to lotion, she finds just as much joy talking to her new clients. “I get to spend all day making people feel good about themselves, I love it!” says Cindy. “And there’s a big difference in the product, but the fundamentals of sales still go hand in hand with what I used to do.”
