A new report published by SunHerald.com has found that online consumer reviews and social media sites have a larger role in a small businesses reputation than its own website. The marketing firm Marchex collected data from search results of 150 small businesses across the Northeast United States that focus on customer service.talkinghead

The research found that less than 20 percent of the search results pointed to the small businesses website. The other 80 percent of search results came from user generated content such as social media and local review sites.

“Marchex has seen how consumer reviews are impacting the bottom line of our small business customers, and we wanted to highlight how big the impact really is,” said Ryan Fritzky, Director of Small Business Product Development at Marchex.
