Submit Your FDA Proposal Comments Before Sunday Deadline

Wednesday, March 16th, 2016

By now you should have received several emails from the American Suntanning Association requesting that you post a comment on two separate FDA websites regarding the recent FDA proposed rules. These emails came with sample comment letters for you to use to customize your own response or they can be copied and pasted on the FDA site.

We have until March 20th to post our comments, and it is very important that you, your employees, customers and friends get as many submissions posted as possible. The FDA’s proposed rules include:

  • A recommendation to limit your customer’s tanning sessions to 2x per week.
  • A recommendation to limit your customers to 48 tanning sessions per year.
  • A recommendation to limit your customers exposure frequency to one session every 48 hours.
  • A requirement for customers to sign a consent form every six months.
  • A federal ban on anyone under-18 from tanning. Federal law supersedes state law.

Please contact the ASA (info@americansuntanning.org) if you have any questions or if you need any help getting your comments submitted.

The ASA been informed that the FDA websites have been overwhelmed with comments and are behind in approving and posting them to the site. The ASA has also received reports that the website has been unaccessible at times. If you encounter any problems submitting your comments, please continue to try, as this process is vitally important for your business. Once you have successfully submitted your comment, you will receive a tracking number that you should keep for reference.
