A Fox Business News report Thursday slammed the Health Care Law’s 10 percent tax on indoor tanning as an unfair job-killer that should be repealed.
“Thousands of salons have been forced to close,” Fox Business reporter Ashley Webster said in the story. “But also many business owners say they are reluctant to hire right now. ”
The story highlighted legislation introduced to repeal the 10 percent tax. “The health care law unfairly imposes onerous taxes, like the tan tax, on our nation’s business owners and consumers, slowing economic growth and costing jobs,” the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Michael Grimm, R-NY, said in a statement shown in the report.
The story also pointed out that tanning beds in health clubs were made exempt from the tax — an unfair advantage.
The Indoor Tanning Association believes the 10 percent tax has led to the closure of 3,100 salons and has cost 24,000 jobs, according to the report.
