While the purpose of the renowned Victoria’s Secret Fashion show is to promote lingerie and clothing, it’s no secret that many viewers are more interested in what’s underneath the apparel. And, as usual, at Tuesday’s 2014 rendition of the show, glamorous, deep tans were a prominent part of the signature look of the Victoria’s Secret “Angels,” who seem to fascinate women even more than men.
Along with insane fitness routines and the work of a small army of hair stylists and manicurists, developing a sensational tan is a pillar of show preparations for the world-famous supermodels.
“For me, it’s really about having a nice tan. If you have a nice tan, it looks really nice on the runway,” Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio told website POPSUGAR.
While spray tans might be the primary method for the models, Ambrosio seems to be primarily keeping it mostly natural.
“I was just in St. Barts with my kids, and it was nice to get a little tan and do some outdoor exercises, like walking, running on the beach, and swimming […],” she says.
When asked if spray tanning was also part of her pre-show repertoire, Ambrosio told POPSUGAR she “might apply some tanner,” gesturing at her legs.
Many of the other models surely do some UV tanning as well, but there’s certainly no lack of last-minute spray tanning taking place before the big event. According to reports from London’s Daily Mail and others, it took approximately 3.5 liters of spray tan solution and three coats per model to get them to the ideal shade for the runway.
The 2014 Victoria’s Secret fashion show aired on television on Dec. 9, on CBS.
