A majority of indoor tanning businesses will remain open as long as their last tanners are in the salon and will take tanners up until their published closing time, according to a SmartTan.com poll conducted in late November.
According to the poll, 59 percent of businesses will take their last tanner all the way up to the salon’s published closing time, while 41 percent say they take last tanners about 20 minutes before their published closing time. It is assumed that many of these stores publish their “last tan” time.
Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy asked salon owners on his Facebook page to elaborate on their policies on this subject. Those who commented said they would never turn a customer away.
“We take customers all the way up to closing — never turned a customer away,” said Melissa Horton Hauser, of Tropical Resort Tans in Virginia Beach, Va.
Kristen Baird Barfknecht, of Body & Sol Tanning in Virginia, agreed. “We take clients up until the posted time — never turn them away and they can tan for the full allowed time,” she said.
John Ledford, of Southern Rays Tanning in Kentucky, also agreed. “We take every customer until closing time. Every tanner counts just like the first one of the day.”
