“Put away the sunscreen and go outside!” — Carl Lowe, a frequent contributor to Prevention Magazine and The New York Times, in his column titled, “To be skinny you need vitamin D.”
Lowe is the latest columnist to figure out that UV exposure is the only true source of abundant vitamin D, that diet contains relatively little vitamin D, that over-use of sunscreen strips us of vitamin D and that non-burning UV exposure makes sense. In his column he cites The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Vol. 94, No. 1 67-73; and American Heart Association’s Joint 49th Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention and Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism.
