Is it okay for a non-profit cancer education and prevention charity to develop a campaign asserting that tanning is as harmful as smoking cigarettes, even if the facts suggest otherwise? Is it okay to fill that campaign with more than a dozen other statements that have been refuted by conflicting or confounding information without referencing the confounding material?
In 2015, the ASA and its Nebraska members drew a line in the sand by filing a lawsuit challenging the accuracy of the Nebraska Cancer Coalition (NCC) “TheBedIsDead” web site and campaign.
