More than one-third of tanning businesses say ABC News’ June story questioning the safety of spray tanning hurt their spray tanning business, according to a SmartTan.com poll conducted in July.
According to the poll, 36 percent say the story — which slammed DHA from salon spray tanning services but didn’t mention that over-the-counter products from its advertisers uses the same DHA in the same way — hurt their businesses. More than half — 58 percent — say the story had no impact. The remaining 6 percent said the story actually helped their businesses.
