Internet marketing is moving fast and it is leaving some small businesses behind. According to an article on ReadWriteWeb.com, businesses that don’t update their Web sites regularly or integrate social media tools are missing out on a large amount of traffic. The results come from a study conducted by SiteKreator, a Web site creation tool, and included information from 5,000 businesses.
Businesses that updated their site more than five times a month had 300% more traffic than those updating less, the article states. While those hyper-active businesses do pull in a significant amount of traffic, they account for only 2% of the total businesses polled. 54% of businesses surveyed were found to update their sites less than once a month.
Surprisingly, 75% of the small businesses surveyed were not integrating any social media tools into their sites. For example, some social media tools are Facebook’s “like” and “share” buttons. Firms that did use these tools on their Web site had 400% more unique visitors than those who did not.
“Being present online isn’t enough; you need to be engaging your customers. It’s just like any other type of relationship,” says Smart Tan’s Marketing and Communications Director Chris Cummings. “If you’re dating someone and you only talk to them once every few months, that relationship isn’t going to last. You need to be consistently communicating with your customers.”
